Hip Hop Speaks to Children
This is a poetry book that also comes with a CD. It includes a collection of poems and songs by various poets and artists. This book would definitely keep children interested because it incorporates music and the poems and songs are about a variety of topics. There are poems and songs by famous people such as Langston Hughes, Walter Dean Myers, Kanye West, Most Def and Maya Angelou. This book can teach children a lot about poetry and they will enjoy reading it or listening to it being read or sang from the CD that is included.
Martins Big Words by Doreen Rappaport
This story is an biography of Martin Luther King Jr's life. It's very inspirational and the illustrations are beautiful. It will teach children to stand up for what they believe it and that everyone should be considered equal. It talks how Martin Luther fought, protested, helped others and made speeches about equal rights. In the back t has "big words" such as freedom, peace and together. There are also inspirational quotes on the pages. There is so much you could teach children using this book and I thought it was really great.

The Family Book by Todd Parr
The Family Book by Todd Parr is one that I just finished reading for my second set of annotated bibliographies. It is a book about all different types of families such as single parent, two moms, two dads, bi-racial, step parents, big families, small families, families that live close together, families that live far apart and adopted children. It talks about how although families are different they still love each other, help each other and are happy or sad when certain things happen. The book also includes animals, bright colors and, kid handwriting and is funny, all of which will definitely keep little kids intersted. I would definitely recommend this book to be read to little children to show them diversity and that all families are not the same.

Why?
One of the books I read for my annotated bibliography was Why? by Lila Prap. I loved this book and thought it was adorable. It's for preschool/kindergarten aged students and each page has a question about an animals such as why lions have manes or why kangaroos have pouches then it gives a silly answer and a joke answer and on the side it gives the real scientific reason. I think this book is so cute and children will really be engaged because it's funny and tells jokes but they will also learn a lot about animals from it because of the explanations. I recommend this book to anyone reading to young children.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
I just finished reading My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult for the second time. Its a book for young adults and was on a summer reading list last summer. It's an amazing book about a young girl who has leukemia and her parents made sure to have another child who was a perfect donor match. The sister petitions for medical emancipation from her parents so she can make her own choices about her body because since she was born she has been a donor to her sister without being asked. It's just an amazing book and the ending is such a suprise. It's actually being made into a movie that will be coming out in 2009 staring Cameron Diaz, Alec Baldwin and Abigail Breslin.
