Hip Hop Speaks to Children

This is a poetry book that also comes with a CD. It includes a collection of poems and songs by various poets and artists. This book would definitely keep children interested because it incorporates music and the poems and songs are about a variety of topics. There are poems and songs by famous people such as Langston Hughes, Walter Dean Myers, Kanye West, Most Def and Maya Angelou. This book can teach children a lot about poetry and they will enjoy reading it or listening to it being read or sang from the CD that is included.

I took a look at this book at Barnes and Noble and also really enjoyed it. I think that children would really like it and be able to relate to it. I also liked the fact that it came with a CD. I will be adding this to my annotated bib. as well!

I saw this at Barnes and Noble also. It appealed to me because of the musicians that are featured in the collection. I don't think a lot of children realize that lyrics to a song are a form of poetry.

Sounds like many of you found Hip Hop Speaks to Children as one for your collection. I too read it in Borders and found it to be one for a classroom library.
